Aside from being first and foremost a God-loving wife and mother to two wonderful children, Kit Kirkwood is an accomplished horsewoman and coach. Kit is driven with a passion for teaching, helping and inspiring both people and horses. She is gifted at motivating people to a winning attitude and adjusting their mindsets both in and out of the arena.
Kit grew up and spent most of her life in the USA in Texas and Oklahoma and has spent her lifetime in various equine activities. She has trained horses for and competed in a wide array of events in the USA from youth rodeos and horse shows as a child to cutting, roping, barrel racing and horsemanship competitions and has won and placed in a multitude of these events through the years. She feels very blessed to have worked for and alongside many top horsemen and women in America.
Her father who was a dedicated and highly decorated military man always told her that, “if you are unwilling to learn, no one can help you, but if you are determined to learn, no one can stop you” ~ and Kit made it a lifelong goal to learn as much as she could from as many people as she could and to never stop learning.
Kit is gifted with an ability to relay her easy to understand 1,2,3, building block training techniques that are the foundation for everything she does with a horse.
Kit and her husband Bill Kirkwood, a former cutting horse trainer, and children Billie and Jamie moved to the Rockhampton area in 2019 to establish a cattle enterprise and continue their horse breeding and training program. Since moving to Australia, Kit is continuing to do barrel racing and horsemanship clinics around the country along with giving lessons and private mini-clinics from their home base near Rockhampton. Spend some time with Kit and you will quickly find out how genuinely caring she is; she truly wants to help you and your horse in any way she can. She often helps people where they least expect it. She can be contacted via her Facebook page Kit Kirkwood Horsemanship Lessons and Clinics or by calling her on 0448 080 500.
